Estimates, not bills

Results are estimates built from state-wide averages published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and from figures you enter. They are not a bill, a quote, an offer of service or a prediction of future prices. Utilities set prices through tariffs approved by regulators or local boards; your actual charges depend on your provider, rate plan, meter readings, taxes, fees and weather. Before making a financial decision such as signing a lease, buying a home or choosing an energy plan, confirm figures with the utility or supplier concerned.

No professional advice

Nothing on this site is financial, legal, engineering or energy-efficiency advice. Guides explain how bills are calculated in general terms; they do not assess your home or circumstances.

Accuracy and changes

We check every figure against its source and date it, but source data is revised, published with a lag and sometimes withheld, and we can make mistakes. Figures and features may change at any time without notice. If you spot an error, please report it through the corrections form.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on the estimates or content, including decisions made using them.

Reuse

The underlying EIA statistics are U.S. government works. The site’s text, design and code are the publisher’s; you may quote short passages and individual figures with a link back to the page. Do not republish the site wholesale or present its estimates as official utility or government figures.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the service, submit automated or abusive correction reports, or use the site to collect information about other people.
