Nevada figures
Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific
Nevada Power sold 10.5 TWh to homes in 2024 and Sierra Pacific Power 2.7 TWh, together about 91% of residential electricity, under the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada. Large customers can buy energy elsewhere: six energy-only providers delivered 16% of retail sales to just 211 accounts, none of them homes among the top sellers.
A summer bill with a big swing
Nevada’s bill is one of the most seasonal in the country: the average residential bill reached $207.12 in July 2026 and fell to $82.50 in February 2026, about 2.5 to 1. In the 2020 survey, air conditioning used 3,686 kWh a year where present — sixth-highest among the states — against only 1,335 kWh for electric space heating. The 12-month residential price of 13.36¢ per kWh sits below the national average.
Solar generated 27% of Nevada’s electricity in 2024, behind only natural gas (55%), with geothermal adding 9%. Rooftop systems are widespread: about 134,000 homes, close to one in ten residential meters, were net-metered.
The widest swing
The average Nevada home used about 574 kWh in February 2026 and 1,622 kWh in July 2026, almost three times as much. That is why the twelve-month average of $119.44 hides very different bills by season. In EIA’s final 2024 figures, use averaged 930 kWh a month at 15.00¢, a $139.39 bill.
Gas heat and assistance
Two thirds of homes (68%) heat with gas, using about 476 therms a year per account at $1.261 per therm (2025). EIA does not survey heating oil or propane prices in Nevada, so enter your supplier’s price for those lines. Help with energy bills comes from the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.
