Oklahoma figures
OG&E and PSO
Oklahoma Gas & Electric sold 9.1 TWh to homes in 2024 and Public Service Company of Oklahoma 6.3 TWh; the Oklahoma Corporation Commission regulates both. Thirty cooperatives — Oklahoma Electric Cooperative is the largest — made 21% of retail sales across about 571,000 accounts, and 62 public entities such as the City of Edmond another 12%. The Grand River Dam Authority, a public power entity, ranks among the five largest retailers but sells almost nothing to households directly.
Wind and gas, cheap power
Wind produced 40% of Oklahoma’s electricity in 2024 — fourth-highest share in the country — and natural gas 51%; coal dropped from 43% in 2014 to 7%, the sixth-largest decline. The state generated 94 TWh against 72 TWh of retail sales, and its 2024 all-sector price ranked 48th of 51. Associated Electric Cooperative’s gas-fired Chouteau plant was the largest generator.
Homes pay 13.70¢ per kWh but use a lot — about 1,052 kWh a month — and the summer bill is steep: $229.36 in July 2026 against $100.54 in November 2025. Electric space heating is a large load where used (4,076 kWh a year in the 2020 survey), and the heating split is 39% electricity, 52% gas.
Gas, propane and help
A gas account averaged about 558 therms in 2024, at $1.385 per therm. Propane, in 10% of homes, went for $2.272 a gallon in EIA’s closing 2025–26 survey, with average use of 308 gallons a year. LIHEAP sits in the Family Support Services Division of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
